SEA SCAPES

Sea Scapes explores the difficulty of comprehending how long ago life began on Earth, a concept that is fundamental to understanding evolution. The images that comprise this series compress time-dilated exposures, 8,000 times longer than a straight photograph might require as a single frame.  Recorded in this way, changes of light and motion in the tableau are laid one atop another, withholding immediate understanding, and inviting interpretation.  Image horizons were intentionally placed at the frame’s equator, to suggest, when installed as a series, life’s continuum from one epoch to the next, across millennia.
